Joy Behar, one of the co-hosts of “The View” has said some pretty idiotic things in the past. She usually opens her mouth without thinking about whether it should be said aloud.
Recently, Behar was talking about gun ownership in the U.S. and how the federal government is slow to make any kind of gun reform.
“Once Black people get guns in this country, the gun laws will change. Trust me.”
This is not only racist but also extremely ignorant.
Is she not aware that there are countless Black people who own guns? Has she never listened to the news? Who does she think is responsible for the majority of gun violence in Chicago and New York City? Those are headlines nearly every weekend – and the culprits are almost always Black.
Black people have guns. And the gun laws haven’t changed.
This is Behar’s way of trying to say that the federal government is racist. She believes that when more Black people own guns, the White House will finally enact gun laws to keep them out of their hands. Right now, the gun laws aren’t changing because it’s about keeping white men armed.
This isn’t the case – and she sounds ignorant for even having suggested such a thing. Her co-hosts aren’t much better, though.
Lindsey Granger, a conservative host, talks about how a man in Connecticut, a black man, built an AR-15 as a way to protect his family after a neighbor was hit by a home invasion.
She doesn’t help to build a good case.
She admits that, in Connecticut, it is illegal to own an assault weapon. However, there are rules that would allow a person to build one.
At this point, the man builds the gun – even though it’s illegal to own one in the state where he lives.
She decides that, since she’s on “The View,” it’s okay to make a racist statement. So, she says, “He is a Black man, it’s odd. Most AR-15 owners are former military, 35+ and married. That’s all I’m saying is that they’re not just crazy people.”
Apparently, Black men can’t own AR-15s – and typically only married and former military men own them.
That’s not what the statistics show. And most of the murders committed with AR-15s don’t fit that statistic shared by Granger, either.
After sharing this tidbit of info as a way to defend the conservative side (she didn’t do us any favors), That’s when Behar dropped her racist opinion.
It didn’t take long for Sunny Hostin to jump in to support Behar, claiming that gun reform happened immediately after the Black Panthers protested at the California statehouse back in 1967. It prompted the Mulford Act, which bans the open carry of loaded firearms.
What the women on “The View” fail to realize is that criminals don’t care about the laws. Just as it’s illegal to open carry a loaded firearm, it’s also illegal to shoot up a school, a theatre, a church, or anywhere else. Yet, people still do it.
The liberal women haven’t been able to stop talking about gun violence during their “Hot Topics” session. Yet, they really don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to who owns the guns and who is using the guns.
Sick people will always be able to get their hands on guns. It doesn’t matter whether they are black or white. To say that gun reform will only come when there are more Black gun owners is ridiculous.
Biden promised unity. If he really wanted to make that happen, one of the first steps should be to take this show off the air. That would certainly help as Behar and the rest of them only help to spread hate, misinformation, and ignorance.
