230 Illegal Immigrants Were Driving Semi-Trucks on Your Highway — ICE Just Fixed That

On Interstate 35 in Oklahoma, a state trooper pulled over a stolen semi-truck. The driver, a Honduran national in the country illegally, resisted arrest and broke the trooper's arm. That man had a commercial driver's license.

He wasn't the only one.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced the results of Operation Guardian, a three-day enforcement sweep conducted October 26-28 across 15 states. "In just three days, we arrested more than 230 illegal aliens, including over 40 illegal aliens with commercial driver's licenses, across 15 states," Mullin said from the headquarters of Melton Truck Lines in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "Our roads are safer with these illegal aliens no longer behind the wheels of semi-trucks."

The states targeted: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas. Every one of them a corridor for freight traffic.

Mullin made the announcement flanked by Melton Truck Lines CEO Bob Peterson and company president Robert Ragan — the private sector standing next to enforcement because the problem lands on their industry first. Fraudulent CDLs don't just put illegal immigrants behind the wheel. They put unvetted, uninsured drivers in 80,000-pound vehicles sharing lanes with families.

Operation Guardian is part of the broader Operation Guardrail, a nationwide initiative launched in late September targeting CDL violations by illegal foreign nationals. The numbers through Guardrail are staggering: 303 illegal foreign nationals arrested by October 29. Since January 20, 2025, ICE has made 4,795 CDL-related arrests, including 1,233 involving people who held commercial driver's licenses.

ICE Assistant Director Russell Hott has overseen the operational side. Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Commissioner Tim Tipton and Oklahoma Highway Patrol Colonel Joe Williams participated in the Tulsa announcement alongside Texas Department of Public Safety Colonel Freeman Martin — a signal that state-level law enforcement is coordinating directly with federal operations rather than waiting for Washington to act alone.

One stop on Interstate 40 during the operation turned up a vehicle carrying seven occupants, including an unaccompanied minor, all from Mexico. That's not a CDL violation. That's smuggling.

Previous operations in the same pipeline arrested 70 drivers from 15 countries in one sweep, 120 illegal foreign nationals — 91 of them holding CDLs — in another, and 31 illegal CDL drivers in a single-day Texas operation. The pattern is consistent: every time ICE looks, they find more.

The Biden administration reported more than 2 million "gotaways" — people who crossed the border and were never apprehended. Some percentage of those 2 million figured out that a commercial driver's license is one of the easiest credentials to fraudulently obtain and one of the most dangerous to hold without proper training or vetting. Nobody tracked how many until now.

Four thousand seven hundred ninety-five arrests since Inauguration Day. That's not a rounding error. That's a fleet.
