A Liberal Polling Group Just Handed Trump the Best Argument for Ending Birthright Citizenship — And They Don’t Even Realize It

The Pew Research Center — yes, THAT Pew Research Center, the one the Left trots out every time they need a “nonpartisan” study to prove conservatives are stupid — just published a report that accidentally makes the single strongest case for President Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship. Nine percent of all babies born in the United States in 2023 were born to mothers who are in this country illegally. That’s roughly 320,000 brand-new “American citizens” per year, courtesy of a constitutional loophole the size of the southern border.

You almost have to admire the self-own. Pew spent months crunching the numbers, probably expecting to generate some sympathetic headline about “undocumented families,” and instead they produced a giant neon billboard that reads: “TRUMP WAS RIGHT.”

Here’s what the numbers actually look like when you lay them out. Of those 320,000 babies, approximately 245,000 had fathers who were also non-citizens or non-permanent residents. So we’re not talking about mixed-status families where one parent played by the rules. We’re talking about two people who both came here illegally, had a baby on American soil, and — presto — that baby is now a full United States citizen with all the rights, benefits, and entitlements that come with it.

Oh, and it gets even better. Pew also identified about 9,000 children born to “birth tourists” in 2023 alone. Birth tourism! That’s when someone from another country flies in specifically to have their baby here so the kid gets a U.S. passport. It’s like a vacation package: see the Grand Canyon, visit Disney World, pop out a citizen. Some travel agencies literally advertise this service.

Now, if Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship had been in effect from 2006 through 2023, Pew estimates it would have affected 5.1 million people. Five. Point. One. Million. That’s not a rounding error. That’s a mid-sized state’s worth of citizenships handed out to people whose parents never went through a single legal checkpoint.

The Left, naturally, is losing its collective mind over Trump’s executive order. They’ve been screaming that it’s “unconstitutional” since the day he signed it. Their argument is that the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil, period, end of discussion, don’t even think about it.

Except that’s not what the 14th Amendment actually says. Go read it. (We’ll wait.) It says “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, *and subject to the jurisdiction thereof*, are citizens.” See that second part? “Subject to the jurisdiction thereof”? That clause exists for a reason. The amendment was written after the Civil War to guarantee citizenship to formerly enslaved Americans and their children. It was never intended as a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for anyone who manages to cross the border before going into labor.

And here’s the part that really makes the progressive argument fall apart: only 33 countries on Earth have birthright citizenship laws like ours. Thirty-three. Out of nearly 200. You know who doesn’t have birthright citizenship? France. Germany. Japan. The United Kingdom. Australia. Basically every country that Democrats point to when they want to lecture us about how “the rest of the world” does things.

So when some blue-check on social media tells you that ending birthright citizenship is “radical” and “extreme,” you can politely inform them that the radical position is the one we’ve been clinging to — the one shared mostly by countries in the Western Hemisphere, many of which are not exactly models of functioning government. (Sorry, not sorry.)

The beauty of this whole situation is that Trump didn’t have to commission his own study. He didn’t have to send DOGE in to dig through birth records. A left-leaning research organization did all the homework for him and published it on their own website. All the administration had to do was say “thank you” and point.

This is what happens when the facts are on your side. You don’t need to spin. You don’t need to cherry-pick. A liberal institution runs the numbers honestly and the numbers say exactly what we’ve been saying for years: the current system is being exploited on a massive scale, and it’s completely unsustainable.

The courts are still sorting out the legal challenges to Trump’s executive order, and the usual suspects in black robes have been trying to block it. But the political argument just got a whole lot harder for the opposition. How do you stand at a podium and scream “this is a fake crisis!” when your own favorite polling outfit just told the world that 320,000 anchor babies are born here every single year?

Short answer: you can’t. So they’ll do what they always do — ignore the data, call everyone racist, and hope nobody actually reads the study.

Too late. We read it. And so did about 80 million Trump voters who are smiling right now.
