Randy Witten was hanging decorations on his front porch in West Point, Utah on May 30 when someone fired ten rounds at him. A doorbell camera recorded the whole thing. The 71-year-old had survived Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Grenada across a 20-year Air Force career. He had the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal to prove it.

He didn't survive Joe Biden's immigration policy.

The man charged with his murder is Axel Eduardo Chavez-Marroquin, an illegal alien from El Salvador who was released into the United States by the Biden administration in 2021. Processed and paroled into the country during the height of Biden's open-border experiment, Chavez-Marroquin was free to roam — and apparently, to kill.

But it gets worse, because it always gets worse. Chavez-Marroquin was arrested for domestic violence in Santa Ana, California in 2024. California's sanctuary policies released him. He was arrested again for domestic violence in Laguna Niguel, California in 2025. Released again. Two arrests. Two releases. Then a 71-year-old veteran took ten rounds on his own porch.

DHS official Lauren Bis didn't mince words. "This monster is charged with murdering a 71-year-old Army and Air Force veteran in Utah," she said. "California sanctuary politicians released this criminal from jail twice after arrests for domestic violence."

Bis also pointed directly at the policies that made all of this possible: "Reckless sanctuary policies in states like California are putting American lives at risk." She added that "ICE is now asking officials in Utah to commit to not releasing this criminal from jail and to work with ICE."

Chavez-Marroquin was arrested on June 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada and is currently sitting in Davis County Jail facing charges of murder with a dangerous weapon, discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, dangerous weapon conduct by a restricted person, and obstruction of justice. Maria Witten lost her husband — a man who gave two decades of his life defending this country.

It's still unclear why Chavez-Marroquin and his accomplish shot Witten. No connection between the two has been found.

"This illegal alien should've never been allowed on our streets, and James Witten should still be alive today," said Bis.

Randy Witten gave this country Vietnam, Desert Storm, Grenada, and 20 years of service. The Biden DHS gave his killer a bus ticket and a court date nobody ever intended to keep. California gave him two get-out-of-jail-free cards. Utah got the body.
